NJ1K peak map Park at the picnic area at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation which can be reached from Route 15 near Lake Hopatcong. There is an extensive trail network and it is marked but can be confusing. Across the road from the parking area a trail leads to the Headley Overlook. The round trip is under 1 mile but the overlook just isn't that good if there are any leaves on the trees. From the parking area walk down a trail to the northeast that parallels Weldon Road. When a trail branches toward Weldon Road to the east or southeast stay on the main trail. You want to head northwest to the summit and there are several sets of trails that will get you there. Head north on the main trail for only about .3 miles and then turn west and walk another .6 miles before turning left or north. Walk another .25 miles to a sign that says "Morris County High Point" on your left. The actual high point is in the woods to the left or to the west off the trail. Wander around to get the highest point and then walk to the trail and to the junction where you turned north. This time go straight ahead turning left at a sign for the "RV area". When you arrive on the road at the RV area, walk slightly to the left toward the bathrooms. From here walk through the open woods toward the southeast and you will be back in the parking lot with your car.

(The map above shows the parking area and the hiking route in an anticlockwise direction with the out and back to the high point.)
