in DepthI bought these boots as a present to myself because they looked awesome on the shelf. I didn't need them. I just wanted them. I have worn Merrell's for some time and have always found them comfortable and long-wearing. These boots were comfortable right out of the box. I decided I would wear them on longer hikes and when I did have to do too much climbing since they are a little stiffer than my other shoes. Slowly I found myself wearing these shoes more and more. The shoes do get wet but the only time my feet have gotten wet is when I stepped in water that came over the top of the boot! I have worn them snowshoeing and find them very warm even though they are not insulated. The only time I find them a little lacking is when walking on roads or on flat, hard trails. On these surfaces they don't support my foot adequately or at least seem stiff and inflexible. I did a bushwhack at the end of August on a day after it had rained. All the vegetation was wet And I was soaked shortly after stepping into the woods. As I hiked it seemed that my feet were also getting wetter and wetter! The Fugitives are clearly advertised as WATERPROOF so I was pretty upset. They are two years old but I expect more out of $160 boots. I care for them carefully by cleaning them and applying additional waterproofing using the method and products suggested by Solo. By the time I had finished the hike my feet were soaked. My feet, my socks and the boots had expanded and I had raw spots across the tops of my toes. This was extremely uncomfortable and kept me from hiking for several days. I decided to contact Asolo by e-mail and they directed me to my local dealer. I brought the shows back to Morgan Outdoors in Livingston Manor and Lisa, the owner, immediately returned them to Solo for testing. After about 10 days I saw Lisa and asked her about the shoes. She said she had not heard anything and would contact Asolo. By the time I got home Lisa had left a message on my phone telling me to ... come pick up the brand new shoes Solo had sent. I was happy since I like their shoes and now I know they have first-rate customer service! There was no evaluation with the shoes so I am still going to contact them to see if they determined the problem with the shoes.
