in DepthSome sites list these as hiking shoes, others as trail runners and some as cross trainers. I have used them several times now for day hikes ranging from flat walking to some pretty steep climbs. I like the way they fit my foot. They are extremely light but offer good arch support. On descents my foot does move forward some but not enough to allow my toes to jam into the shoe. Like most low cut shoes there is little or no ankle support which is a problem on rocky or uneven terrain. The XCR Gore Tex prevents the feet from getting wet when slogging through mud or water. The tread pattern and type of rubber seem very able to handle slippery rocks and the like.
